Tom Thacker is one of my favorite musicians of all time, I love all 3 of the bands he has been a part of, just wondering what everyone thinks about him. I mean how can you have a Gob forum without a Tom Thacker thread?

I mean how can you have a Gob forum without a Tom Thacker thread? Yeah you're right the place needed Tom thread. I was just gonna make it yesterday but I was too lazy for it.. There's actually four bands he's been in. Gob, Sum41, The McRackins and Tommy's bisquit which was formed about a year before Tom and Theo formed Gob. They released no music though, I guess they were mostly working on the songs Gob's Self titled has. /stickied

Tom is a very versatile guitarist I must say, and despite the fact that he isn't one of the best vocalists out there, he is able to stand out for sure with his tone and his sometimes very intriguing and deep, sometimes very plain and relatable lyrics. Tom is definitely one of the musicians I appreciate the most even if Gob is the only band of his that I've listened to. He's a great person too as far as I know.
Oh, by the way, there was this interview once where he said that he is the son of John McEnroe. Can anyone back this up or was it just a joke of some sort?

Well for first, they look VERY MUCH alike, and Tom's born in 1978 and McEnroe was 19 back then, so it is possible. And I remember Tom saying that "My biological father John McEnroe cried when he heard this record(Muertos vivos)" so that couldn't really be a joke. I'll probably ask this one from Tom soon.

There was actually an article from 2003 or 2004 that named Tom the 3rd best punk vocalist, behind Billy Joe Armstrong and someone else, I will see if I can find it online. But I agree that he does not really have a great voice, but makes it seem a lot better because of how he uses it.

Okay thanks guys for all the info There was actually an article from 2003 or 2004 that named Tom the 3rd best punk vocalist, behind Billy Joe Armstrong and someone else, I will see if I can find it online. But I agree that he does not really have a great voice, but makes it seem a lot better because of how he uses it. Yeah it's definitely true that the way one uses his/her voice is more important than the voice itself - although, it's not like that is Tom's only strenght, since he is far from having the worst voice in punk, don't you think? Haha. I hope you can find that article somehow... I'm intrigued.

pantentti... You said you talk to Tom Thacker? how did that start It was about three years ago, I sent a message to them on MySpace asking about the new album and some other stuff. Tom answered it and from that(April 07) I've been talking with him about all kinds of stuff pretty regularly. He's really cool&down to earth guy I mean if you sent a message to Mark Hoppus or Tom Delonge they won't answer!

Tom was down to earth even when Gob was famous- and he still is. There aint much of people like him on the music scene, too bad.
