ok, so this just has to do with the Olympics in general... was anyone else upset with the music they chose? I think Canada has the best music in the world, but they played the mainstream crap that I have to listen to here in America. Especially since it was in Vancouver it would have been cool to see Gob, but there were a lot of better choices then Nickelback. Avril Lavigne is fine, she is original, and she attracts the female audience, but I was dissapointed with the music as a whole.

I didn't see any of the music stuff but I heard that Hedley and Simple Plan were there and that is really disapointing to me, there are way way better bands out there than Hedley and Simple Plan in my opinion.

yea, like if it was in the USA, then I would be happy with the music they played because it was not horrible, but Canada has so much more to offer musically, and they put out the most americanized Canadian bands

Apparently all of the people in the US state of Washington can't stop talking about the inflatable mounties. My aunt said it was on the radio a couple of times while she was down there today.

First of all, regardless of what patentti says, Kiprusoff is the reason Finland got to the top 4 in the first place. Sure he might of given USA a goal or two for free, but he was still the entire team's best player throughout the tournament. I doubt that Bäckström would've done any better job to be honest. I'm happy that Finland won bronze, but frankly I believe it's the only medal we'll achieve until 2018 or so.
As for Canada winning gold, I'm glad. USA had a young and fast team but they have tons of chances ahead to win gold, whereas Canada just took what it derserved. Team Canada was the one & only team in the tournament which kept improving every match (maybe the Slovakia game was a tiny exception but still), and that's the biggest sign of a winner. Congrats to all Canadians and the team itself.
To sum it up, all I'm really sorry for is Slovakia's 4th place. They deserved a medal after such a dramatic tournament and having an old, committed team on ice - maybe even more than we did.

Okay, here's some of my last thoughts too: Our team pretty much honestly sucked this year. Well as I've been thinking for longer time now the goalie wasn't the only reason we sucked. Our forwards were mostly 35-year-old ex-superstars with career going downhill on NHL. Our defensemen were powerless against bigger teams there wasnt enough size I think. Kimmo Timonen one of our best defensemen is like 170 centimeters tall only. If we would have gotten against Russia or even Switzerland who played great against USA (only 2-0) there wouldn't be bronze I'm sure. So we need to get some young and talented guys out there for World Championships! (Only 62 days to it btw ) There isn't many of them in Finland I'm afraid. As I've said I'm happy that Canada won gold, they deserved it more than USA anyway in my thoughts. Congrats.

Yeah I agree with you on that post. The cold truth is that even though we sucked, it was pretty much the best team that could be gathered if we ignore Jussi Jokinen and a few defensemen who were injured (Petteri Nummelin and Ossi Väänänen to name two). I'm glad to see that new, young guys have been succeeding well this week in the Finnish National league (Mikael Granlund, Sami Vatanen, Tomi Pekkala and Julius Junttila in particular) but it's going to take long for us to climb on top again, and it'll take a lot of work from both, the country and the players.

Hahah, I saw the hatrick live that Julius Junttila did in Thursday, on his third SM-League game! That has to be some kind of record, atleast in our country. Too bad didn't get a record of it the breakaway goal was awesome. Other ones were pretty cool too.
EDIT: Found a video if anyones interested. Follow this guy.

My last thoughts... Canada did not deserve gold, was Canada the best team in the tournament? No doubt, but they did not play the best, the only reason they won gold was because they were so much more talanted then any other team. They played poorly throughout and did not deserve the gold Switzerland, Slovakia, and USA played the best I thought, but talent wise, talent wise the three best were Canada, Russia, and USA

Okay, I'm locking this now. Let's do another of these hockey discussions when the World Championships start, hopefully with more people participating. It's always fun to talk about ice hockey with people.
